Morning Brew: August 1, 2006
Your morning news roundup for Tuesday, August 1, 2006:
The big news today? The heat. Withtemperatures reaching 36 degrees(before the humidex) today, a new report is saying thatsmog will cause over 8,000 premature deaths in 20 years. Despite the heat, city cooling centres remain pretty empty, butToronto pools and splash padsare full of kids trying to keep cool. And while the temperature is heating up, tempers must be rising too, asanother shooting rang out in the city's east endon the heels ofa home invasion downtown yesterday morning.
In other news,Toronto Police are trying to cut down on pocket bike riding, because pocket bikes don't belong on streets, they belong in music videos.
The city's getting a new arts festivalcalled LuminaTO. They rejected my proposed name: AboutTimeTO.
Howard Moscoe has run into trouble again, this time not for the TTC,but for sending out an email. No, it wasn't one of those annoying forwards.
