Coffee Lunar

COVID-19 Updates

Coffee Lunar is open for takeout. A maximum of 10 people are allowed in the store at a time. Masks are mandatory and hand sanitizer is at the counter.

Coffee Lunar is a Toronto cafe that serves both your traditional espresso-based drinks as well as a selection of unique sip options that are hard to come by including Cream Drops and Espresso Tonics.

Located near two language schools in the Rosedale neighbourhood, the laid-back spot named after the moon was opened with the intention of being a late-night study space.

Inside the simple and understated cafe, a whole slew of unique drinks are made with a Slayer 3 Group espresso machine and two shots ofSeth Taylorcoffee per cup.

One beverage feature which I've never seen anywhere else is the Cream Drop (regular: $4, large: $5.50).

Delicious, though possibly too rich for my liking, the drink is made with double espresso, half an ounce of house made brown sugar syrup diluted with eight ounces of cold water, 1.5 ounces of 35 per cent whipping cream and one ounce of Half and Half cream served over ice.

Another notable mention is the Espresso Tonic (regular: $3.50, large: $5), which may look like your regular cold brew but is actually quite different. It's made with a double shot of espresso, tonic water, and 1.5 ounce of the brown sugar syrup before it's poured over ice.

Each different type of coffee is prepared with a different origin of bean with their current offerings being Ethiopia for the drip options, Honduran for espresso, and Costa Rican for all of the cold brews. Each bean is also available for purchase in-store.

Besides just ordering the Cold Brew off the menu to try (regular: $4, large: $5.50), you can get their housemade Cold Brew Concentrate ($20: 16oz) to go and make your own coffees at home. One bottle makes about six to seven cups of coffee and takes less than a minute to prepare.

Another popular drink among customers is the Mocha Latte (regular: $4.50, large: $6). I'm told a few customers come in specifically for this drink thanks to the house-blended chocolate syrup made with dark cocoa powder, turbinado sugar, and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

The drink that's equally creamy as it is chocolately lives up to its intro.

They also have a selection of teas made withGenuine Tea. The Honey Lemon (regular: $3, large: $3.75) is infused with lemons that are cut and dried in-house for a citrusy aroma and flavour.

Though the drinks are certainly the main attraction, there are still a few baked goods you can get on the side. Made by a local baker and warmed upon request, they have a selection of cookies and scones including a Corn Cheese Scone and P.B. Choco Chip Cookie.

If you're looking for something a little more substantial, the Avocado Sandwich ($8) may fit the bill.

Made fresh to order on your choice of whole wheat or white bread, it comes with guacamole, ricotta, and sliced cherry tomatoes and is drizzled with balsamic vinegar glaze, olive oil, and a bit of pepper and dried parsley.

Placed throughout the cafe are also lots of dried grab-and-go flower bouquets fromThyme Studioincluding dried Lavender and Mini Pampas Grass, all of which can be purchased with your coffee.

Whether you're in search of a caffeine-fix for a late-night study sesh or are just the type to be over the moon about unique coffee options, Coffee Lunar is worth a visit the next time you're in the area.
